How to tape my thumb for support in sport
Try this taping technique for base of thumb support for sport (football, volleyball, netball).
This technique is especially beneficial following ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) damage at the MCPJ, +/- base of proximal phalanx avulsion.
Using a semi-rigid tape in this fashion helps to get support required whilst allowing for movement in ball handling.

Tips for knitting with finger joint Arthritis
A couple of fantastic tips and tricks for knitting with painful finger joint Arthritis. Try a knitting cord. The knitting cord holds the knited garment and as it gets heavier it is supported by the weight of the body rather than in each hand, thus decreasing the load through the small joints of the fingers. And also chekc out these knitting needles, we think they are made from bamboo- they are very smooth, and they don't get cold!
Quick & simple taping technique for thumb stability
Here is a quick and easy taping technique you can use at home for thumb pain and MCPJ stability.
In the example we use semi rigid tape, to allow for movement and proprioceptive feedback in the joint.
This is lovely to apply for return to work / functional use following UCL ligament repair or immobilisation splinting following UCL or RCL tear.
NOTE- this is not recommended when the MCPJ is unstable, or when there is more than a mild ligament (UCL or RCL strain) damage. When the joint is unstable hand therapy or hand surgery opinion is required to provide opinion as to optimal management.
